Yep, we know...
It looks weird! EFT Tapping is more commonly used in the western U.S. and in the U.K. So, we totally get it if you've never heard of it, or only heard a little bit about it. We're glad you're curious.
Learning a new concept or having a new experience can challenge our long-standing views and beliefs. We were skeptical, too. But after years of training and years of using EFT in a wide variety of contexts, we’re here to tell you – it works. Therefore, we encourage you not to believe us (or anyone else for that matter) but to do your own reading and research on the version of EFT Tapping that has been researched. Better yet, have your own EFT Tapping experience with a trained professional who can deliver results.
Essentially, Tapping is acupressure, or a way to activate the body's energy and nervous system by stimulating energy pathways (or meridians). Research, including Randomized Control Trials, suggest there are many mechanisms at play when we Tap including:
- Imaginal Exposure
- Somatic Activation
- Amygdala/Prefrontal Cortex Rewiring
- Nervous System Downward Regulation
- Information Processing & Reprocessing
- Cognitive Restructuring
- Memory Reconsolidation
EFT Tapping elegantly initiates all of the above processes so organically that it's easy to forget there's a great deal happening all at once. And the beauty of EFT is that you don't need to be an expert in any of the above to use EFT to great effect. The protocols involved in EFT Tapping are simple, easy to learn, appropriate for adults and children and can be used in a clinical or therapeutic setting as well as on your own as needed.
When energy moves rapidly through the body, processing (of events, memories, beliefs, fears, emotions, physical sensations) can happen very quickly. And when things are completely processed (cognitively, emotionally, physically, energetically and neurologically) by us, they no longer cause distress or impact our daily lives negatively.
Yep, it's real. In fact, it's so real, there are over 100 peer-reviewed research articles about Tapping and its various mechanisms and effects on the body, brain, nervous system and more. And there's so much to say about EFT Tapping and it's endless possibilities to help us, that we've devoted our entire non-profit organization to sharing EFT Tapping with our community - effectively, ethically and affordably.
Please remember to read our DISCLAIMERS. Although EFT Tapping research shows statistically significant (and, in some cases, dramatic) improvements in PTSD, trauma, phobias, anxiety, depression, weight management, pain control, physical illness, athletic performance and more, the American Psychological Association currently considers EFT Tapping to be an "experimental" treatment. The APA does authorize Energy Medicine, including EFT Tapping, for the Continuing Education of its members.
